This week, I found out that “Cosmopolitan” is not just a culturally disgusting magazine, but it’s also now a Nazi and Communist slogan. A little background for those unaware, Stephen Miller at the White House podium accused CNN reporter Jim Acosta of having “Cosmopolitan Bias” when Acosta accused him of pushing a racist immigration policy. In the aftermath, as they are always likely to do, progressives immediately found a way to insert some element of Nazism into something the administration said. Media Matters and virtually every other left wing site immediately accused Miller of a “white nationalist dog whistle”. If you Google “Cosmopolitan Bias” right now, the full list of results gives you numerous left wing sites decrying the use of this statement. This shows how effective the left wing propaganda machine works. One site makes an accusation, then every other site picks up on it, and Google will then be happy to show you all of them. The basis for this accusation? Stalin used the word cosmopolitan once in a 1946 speech. That’s it. Now setting aside that the modern left is far more aquatinted with Communism than the conservatives, they also try to make it anti-Semitic term as well. The problem is, Stephen Miller, as well as the President’s son in law, and daughter, are all Jewish.
In effect, the left just accused a Jewish Conservative of using an anti-Semitic Communist term. That alone is absurd on it’s face. Secondly, I’m 40 years old and I like to think I’m pretty well acquainted with life and culture, and I have never heard the word Cosmopolitan to refer to anything except a sleazy magazine. This is how the left operates, and how they subvert culture to make literally everything about identity to repress thought. I wonder how long it will take for the left to try to put the magazine out of business for using that term as it’s name? I’m sure they won’t though, because aside from knowing that term isn’t really problematic, they’d never shut down a publication that parrots all of their points and contributes to the decline of our culture. I eagerly await the left wing boycott of Cosmopolitan, which I’m sure will come any day now.
Then, Acosta playing his usual role of advocacy, not journalism, recited The New Colossus sonnet that is on the Statue of Liberty. Personally, I was unaware that we made law based on poems and sonnets. I really like Poe’s The Raven, and I’m quite sure if I tried hard enough I could find some foreign policy built into that poem somewhere. Acosta tried to make the argument that the sonnet somehow dictates America’s immigration policy. The left often implies that we should take in anyone who wants to come here, and that it’s our moral duty to not make any human being “illegal”. They always say America is a nation of immigrants, so we should be open to everyone! First, it’s absurd to compare 2017 immigration policy to the 1800’s. We have completely different issues now than we did then. One thing I ask that the left can never answer, is what’s the limit? Since we are a nation of immigrants and welcome everyone, should everyone that is worse off than us be be able to come here? Nigeria currently has 200 million people, so should we take them all? How many billions of people are currently worse off in their country than the United States? If you push this line of questioning, then they have to admit that open borders isn’t sustainable. There has to be a limit of some sort, which blows their open borders idea apart, and forces them to admit that virtue has it’s limits.
Another massive irony in this whole situation is that the RAISE act is essentially mimicking Canada and Australia’s merit based immigration systems. Progressives fall all over themselves to worship Canada, despite being apparently unaware that Canada is far less multicultural than the United States. Liberals always speak of Canada as some sort of progressive paradise, yet one cursory look at racial breakdowns, you find Canada is nowhere near The United States in multiracialism. In addition, Australia immigration policy is brutal. Johnny Depp was forced to issue a public apology for bringing a dog in without telling authorities, yet I don’t hear any progressives crying about Australia immigration policy.
In the wake of this event, my Twitter feed was exploding with progressives telling me how we hate America for not following the sonnet’s guidelines. It’s honestly hilarious to watch the left become ultra patriotic all of a sudden. I think what was really missed in the wake of Stephen Miller’s crushing of Acosta, is that he was really making fun of, or trolling, Jim Acosta. The White House Press Corps are largely not journalists any more. They are activists for the Democrats, pushing whatever narrative the left tells them. They want the cameras on so they can grandstand about how moral and virtuous they are. What we saw this time, was the media being put in their place in the most devastating fashion. Miller effectively turned the issue back on Acosta, and made fun of him for it, using his own words to crush him and his Fake News agenda.
So what is Cosmopolitan Bias then? I define it the same way I think of “limousine liberals”, a term I believe I heard from Bill Maher of all people. Essentially, its rich liberals who sit in their ivory tower behind security and walls telling us peons how intolerant we are, and how virtuous they are, without them actually doing anything. Take J.K Rowling, author of Harry Potter. She is constantly extolling the virtues of various liberal positions, such as mass immigration yet she uses exactly none of her multiple mansions or land to house refugees or homeless. These liberals live in insanely rich mansions and neighborhoods, with virtually zero diversity, then tell us how we are the intolerant ones, and should be happy to have millions of refugees dropped into our towns. They show that they are inherently biased against the exact things they tell us we are biased against.
The reason the right loved Miller’s crushing of Acosta wasn’t because of some white nationalist thing, it was because a so-called “journalist” got put in his place, in vicious fashion. Acosta, and the rest of the press corps routinely engage in open advocacy of democrat and progressive policies, so it becomes a contest among them to see who can oppose the President the hardest. Miller was the first time they really got a taste of hard opposition to that frame, other than Trump himself. As much as I love Sarah Huckabee Sanders and Sean Spicer, sometimes they don’t fight back as hard as we like. This is why we love Anthony Scaramucci, Corey Lewandowski, Stephen Miller, and yes, Donald Trump.
They fight the progressive machine, and we love them for it.
