Over the course of my involvement in politics, I’ve always noticed that the left has always had an interesting fascination with Communist or socialist dictators. Invariably, someone at the Washington Post or New York Times, or other media outlet will write a puff piece on Fidel Castro, Che Guevara, Kim Jong Un, or even Mao Tse Tung and Joseph Stalin. Celebrities will wear a Castro or Guevara shirt, or issue a tweet that’s more critical of Donald Trump than Kim Jong Un. Even if it’s not a puff piece, the media and the left always seems to underplay socialist dictatorships to a ludicrous level. Over the weekend, we saw this yet again with the sister of Kim Jong Un, Kim Yo Jong. This time, virtually every media outlet was rapturous in their fascination with the sister of a dictator, even going as far as to say things like:
“The Ivanka Trump of North Korea”
“Behind the Rapid Rise of Kim Jong Un’s Sister”
“Kim Jong Un’s sister is stealing the show”
“North Korea’s Charm Offensive”
“Pence was the worst person the White House could send”
“Mike Pence’s missed opportunity”
In the wake of these absurd headlines (and accompanying supportive leftist tweets) about a regime that kills and starves it’s own citizens (and ours when they visit), the American Right goes absolutely ballistic with lines such as:
“The way the media is fawning over communist dictatoress Kim Yo Jong tells you everything you need to know about them” -Jack Posobiec
“She participates in a regime that has concentration camps but she hates Trump so..” -Gavin McInnes
“She owns slaves..” -Owen Benjamin
“I kinda thought the Warmbiers’ attendance did more than hers.” -Dana Loesch
These are but a microscopic sample. On and on and on. All over Fox and Twitter, conservatives collectively lose their mind over the media and leftist praise for Kim. After not only watching all of this over the weekend, but seeing it consistently from the left, it struck me that no one seems to ask the obvious question:
Why does the left seem to love dictators (other than Hitler) so much?
That’s the question. Everyone just gets outraged at the absurdity of it, but no one seems to stop to ask why this is. The American right absolutely loves pointing out the hypocrisy of the left and the media, but no one seems to look deeper. After a good bit of reflection and research I believe I have the answer:
The left loves socialist dictators because they envy the power to do away with their opposition to implement their collectivist ideals. Socialism and Communism have been responsible for the deaths of over 100 million people in the 20th century alone. The reason? When you have a socialist ideal, at some point you are going to have to enforce the redistribution of wealth, as Stalin did to millions of Ukrainian farmers. The left believes that they are coming from a place of pure altruism, because they just want to help as many people as possible, even if they have to kill their opposition to do it. This is why they love dictators and they just happen to all be socialists. To them, it is worth killing all of your opposition in order to advance the “greater good” which they believe socialism represents. They hate anyone to the right of Marx because we aren’t willing to accede to their totalitarian state.
How then, does this apply to their hatred of the Trump/Pence administration, or any other right of center administration? Keep in mind that the left has considered every non-left wing regime to be Nazis, going all the way back to Nixon. Remember that Jane Fonda literally sided with Communist North Korea and suggested that it was ok for them to execute our soldiers. The reason they view center-right as evil personified, is because right wingers champion country over general global altruism. To them, violence in the name of the greater good, is 100% justified, and moreover, prioritizing one’s own country over another is particularly evil. After interacting with numerous progressives over the last few years, I have virtually no doubt that if they could push a button to be rid of those pesky conservatives, they would do it immediately. This also explains why they are so readily able to adopt ANTIFA style tactics as well. To them, we are a speed bump to their perfect socialist utopia, and the dictators that purged opposition to socialism are heroes.
Karl Marx said: “The goal of Communism is the abolition of private property and inheritance.” The reason communism and socialism can’t ever work is because at some point all this redistribution they advocate for has to be enforced by the state, using violence. To the radical leftist however, that violence is completely justified. This explains why the left and their allies in the media will always be sympathetic to socialist dictators. They actually believe that these leaders are doing the right thing for their people, to make things better for the general populace. Even if it’s just subconsciously, communism becomes a morally superior system to our own, where the means justifies the ends. Think of this:
Adolf Hitler Body Count: 17 Million
Joseph Stalin Body Count: 23 Million
Mao Tse-Tung Body Count: 49-70 Million
Hitler is considered the most evil man in history because he killed a large number on the basis of race and country. Stalin and Mao’s genocides are underplayed because they were trying to implement socialism, which according to the Left, is the most altruistic system, thus they get more of a pass than Hitler does. Everyone rightly considers Hitler a monster, but I don’t see the same level applied to Stalin and Mao. In the leftist mind, all murders are not created equal. As long you are murdering people to make things better in the end, that’s all fine and dandy. Castro was a prime example. In the wake of his death puff piece one after the other lionized him, and even prior to, guys like Colin Kaepernick would be seen in Castro shirts. Setting aside the fact that Castro was an overt racist, which is the height of irony, his list of human rights abuses are nearly a mile long, and rife with murders and executions.
After all of this, there’s also the element of mystery. Let’s face it, being mysterious is cool. Even if you are clearly doing shady and vile things, as long as it brings some semblance of mystery you get a pass. After all, no one actually SAW Kim Jong Un or his sister murder someone. Remember Otto Warmbier died from a vague “neurological disorder”, and Kim’s brother was poisoned, but we didn’t see them do it. Since no one in the media actually saw these atrocities, they can play the plausible deniability game. So, you have a perfect storm of mystery, love of socialism, and Trump Derangement Syndrome that combines into one thing for the left:
Communism: A Love Story.
